Recently,I read a book by Deirdre Imus called Green This. It had some amazing information in it about the chemicals we are using in our homes. She also had lots of great suggestions about how to live a cleaner, greener life. One of the first included adding houseplants to your home. Did you know (because I didn't),that there are many benefits of houseplants? Not only do houseplants add some color and aesthetic value to your home, but they help purify your air! Plants can remove chemicals that come from paint, tobacco, car exhaust and other sources. Living right next to a main road on post, the thought of eliminating car exhaust appealed to me. Plants can help fight colds by decreasing dust and increasing humidity (two common allergy irritatants) Amazing what a little plant can do! According to my research, the general rule of thumb is one plant per 100 sq. ft of home. Now,for the actual top 5 list, here are the 5 great choices to have in your home:
Peace Lily
Spider Plant
Dracaena
Fern
Ivy
